Purpose of Spiritual Journaling
1 Chronicles 28:19 All this, said David, the LORD made me understand in writing by his hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern.
Right from the bible days, writing is a culture. So there's a Purpose for writing. God wrote down the 10 commandments to Moses, so they won't forget and envision it always before them.
Exodus 32:16 And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables.
Even in the palace of kings, we have a recorder, who takes into note the words of the King or information that is important to the Kingdom. So, don't take your Spiritual Journaling for granted. We'd be looking at some useful reason for writing it down.
Isaiah 36:3 Then came forth unto him Eliakim, Hilkiah's son, which was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, Asaph's son, the recorder.
Some of our Fathers in the Lord or Biological Parents wrote something down, that has helped us to this day. They tell us about their experience with God. It fuels our passion for the Lord. Possibly, when your parents need a child, they make a vow to the Lord, that this child, if you give me, will serve you. And when you're born you now find out why you're different. When you find where they wrote those Experiences, it will fuel your love and commitment.
BENEFITS
1. Spiritual Growth tracker
We can use it to gauge our Spiritual Growth. What is your Experience last year? What did you Encounter? How's your relationship with God been? If you're sensitive, you'll know the level where you are. So, take notes will help us to draw the line.
For example, I'd like to study the bible today and pray for so so hours. Have I achieved this?
2. Defining one's proximity percentage
How's your relationship with God? The more you walk with God the more you’re drawn into Him. You have more Understanding. From your writing, you could tell how strong your relationship with God is.
3. Measurements and monitor
Measure your Spiritual Growth and also monitor the instructions given. If you have a vision or dream or Prophecy, you'll need to monitor them into fulfillment. Once it is Fulfilled, you can mark it.
4. Faith And Trust Booster
There are times you'll go through challenging times. It may look as if God isn't speaking. Just checking your Journal could remind you of what God said many years ago.
5. Restoration and Repentance
Sometimes, going through our Journal could help us to Repent and desire restoration. If the past few years have been hot for the Lord, why am I clod this year? When you check what you've written before and how you're living now, you'd be challenged.
6 Alignment and Obedience
Having a Vision or Prophecy will help you to align and Obey the Lord when you go through your note. You'll remember what the Lord said.
7. Future References
Judges 2:10 And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.
One of your children could found your diary and help him know God. Or you may want to check back later, the Faithfulness of God.
8. An act of Seriousness
Habakkuk 2:2 And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
Writing down means, you're serious with your life and relationship with God. Don't depend on your brain. The brain has a lot of work to do. It may not capture everything. That revelation God showed you, write it down. It shows you're serious.
9. Prayer Therapy
If there's any Prophecy hanging in your note, it is a call to prayer. Has the Lord promise you or your family, table it before Him. Remind Him of His Word Through prayer, not murmuring.
10. Discerning God's Voice
As you write down, and pray over it, as time goes on, you'll be able to differentiate between God's voice or not.
11. Direction.
From what you have written down, you’ll be able to connect the dot of your life. It can come through the instructions you have written down.
