Comfort

 

Psalm 23:4 KJV

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

In ancient times, rods and staves were essential tools for shepherds. The rod represented the shepherd's authority, while the staff symbolized their guidance and support. (Ai Dictionary)

David said, "Your rod and your staff comfort me"

Look at the symbolism of expression. Rod is used for beating 'sense' into animals. Staff is used for direction and leadership. How then do they bring comfort?

When you walk with God you must understand the ways of God. God's word is both rod and staff, they can beat you into Christlikeness and guide you rightly. Obedience is part of comfort. Living a righteous life is part of the comfort that God ordained.

Comfort isn't just about the house you built or the money you have, when you're led by the Lord, you bring comfort into your spirit, soul and body.

The word of God is for our profit and comfort. When you understand God's definition of comfort, you'll know He truly loves you!

God's method of bringing comfort to His children is through the leadership of His word to give you an expected end. Jeremiah 29:11 KJV

Christianity isn't a ceremony where you can do anything the way you want, the word of God is given for guidance to bring us comfort. 

Comfort in our spirit talks about the constant relationship and consciousness of God.

Comfort in our soul talks about alignment with God's ways and principles. 

Comfort in our body talks about the fruit of transformation that transcends from our heart to the physical world by our dependence on the word of God.

A rod doesn't bring "good" all the time. The usefulness can be painful and harsh sometimes but the result is to guide the sheep into the right path and prevent them from eating what is poisonous to their soul. The word of God prevents us from eating just any doctrines around the word that isn't sanctioned by God.

The corrective measures the word of God brings help us to conform to the image of the Son of God.
